Manager Communication : Mellow Monday service, punctuated by a nearly sold out screening of Speed Racer in Th1. Definitely brought guests to the bar beforehand, and provided a lovely little pop on an otherwise quiet evening.  BAR Staff Observations : Gerard mentioned this in his blog post, but Ashley put in a food order for herself at the start of service. He spoke to her, and when I checked in when I arrived she apologized and said she understood the best practice going forward. After that, she held down Lobby all night without issue.  Ryan was a great help at Trees, staying through the initial push from the Speed Racer crowd. Both Ashley and Jenna were able to do their closing restocks while he watched each bar, and then got out of here around ten.   Jenna took some time to warm back up into a heavy service rush when Speed Racer sat, but found her footing quickly and was able to hold it down at Trees for the rest of the evening solo. Once Speed Racer let out we had a fa...

Manager Communication :  Pretty chill Brunch today. Nothing too busy but a fun crowd. EL Quiet evening, great work from everyone on all floors keeping service flowing.  Not too much of a bar crowd tonight, but had a few people hang out at tables between seven and ten, which was nice.  JH Customer Comments :  When the first round theater 4 sat I stayed at the Lobby, greeted guests and let them know about the heat situation in the theater. I offered credits or exchanges, but only a small number of them took this offer, most opted to sit through the cold. EL BAR Staff Observations :  Jo was a little late due to train issues. She texted me early so I knew she was running late before I started.  I gave her a little help setting up but most of it was in good condition, and Trees was ready to go by the time doors open.  Jenna opened Lobby with no problems. Gabrielle came in at 2:30 as the mid Trees, she gave both Jo and Jenna a break and then Jo was cut after...

Manager Communication :  The snow definitely kept some people home today, but the middle rounds definitely rose in ticket sales throughout the day. A good chunk of staff was late this morning due to transit issues, but everyone was prepared and ready for open, so no impact on service at all. We also got a pretty decent bar crowd at Trees from 3:00pm onwards. JH Bar crowd at Trees Stayed strong all night, lots of people definitely choosing to drink and hang rather than head back out in the cold. Kept a really good energy on throughout the shift. Theater service were short and sweet but numbers grew nicely and overall, we had a pretty good day. Definitely nice to see a crowd, mostly local, appreciative of us being open and coming out regardless of the weather. JM Customer Comments: Had a strange end of night interaction with a man who came in, asked at the door for the nearest hospital and an ambulance so obviously, MODs were called. The man could not tell me what he needed the ambul...

Manager Communication: Had a decent night tonight at the bar despite the snowstorm.  Jenn and Chelsea were able to get us all prepped up before they were cut.  Everyone did a good job in service.  Customer Comments: We had a woman come into the lobby with no mask or vaccine info. She seemed like she had some mental health issues. She refused to leave. She was asking people for money and being very confrontational with us. I told her that if she wouldn't leave I would have to call the cops. She told me I should call the cops then yelled some strong words at me. I called the police. She stayed for about another 5 or 10 minutes before I was finally able to get her to leave. The cops came about an hour and a half later. Gerard spoke to them, they didn't seem to be too concerned about it.  There was a couple in Trees sitting at the end of the bar near the entrance. They had been very lovely according to Dylan, but the woman took a sudden turn for the worse at about 10:30...

Manager Communication:  Pretty good day. Not terribly busy but we got a few good pops.  Fun in theater 1 brought a great crowd that hung out at trees before and after the movie.  Customer Comments:  Four people went into theater 3 and I heard them saying they were going to watch scream in Spanish.  Took me a minute but I realized that Scream wasn't in th 3 so I pulled them out during the start of Licorice Pizza.  Luckily they were in the last row so nobody was disturbed.  I checked their ticket and realized they were Williamsburg tickets, so I gave them a credit for the them and used the credit to purchase tickets and they made it into Scream right at the start of the countdown.  They laughed and said they might've made it 40 minutes before they realized nobody was killed.  BAR Staff Observations: Chelsea and Natasha opened Trees and Ian and Gabrielle closed out the night. Openers got out after everyone ate family meal.  FOH Staff Observ...

Manager Communication: Steady day overall, not a ton of business growth throughout the day but we did some walk in ticketing to make for a good dinner round. Got a nice bar crowd as well before the event and dinner round, then had the bar cleared for an amazing event. BAR Staff Observations: Chelsea held it down very well all day in lobby. Eliel opened strong and then did some batching before leaving and Ian and Gabriel were more than enough coverage for the theater service and after party for the event tonight. FOH Staff Observations: Big thanks to the event staff today, who rocked the theater and were very on top of drink service and then did a great job passing food and bussing the bar during the event. Special Events? Summer of Soul Th1: Hugely successful event. They dropped to an expected guest count of 50 and then back up to 100 at the time of the event. We rolled with it and had plenty of warning for chefs and bar to prepare and adjust. Based on our expected guest count, I had c...

Manager Communication : Fairly mellow Monday, with a few screenings doing well for a weekday during dinner round.  Customer Comments : Had two guests in the second round Th4 West Side Story screening come down to Lobby Bar before the film started. They felt uncomfortable in the theater as it was just under half-sold. They were happy to take an e-credit, and said they would return in a few weeks time.  BAR Staff Observations : Ashley and Ryan did a great job opening, and were able to get to some cleaning side work during the slower opening round. Ryan was able to get out of here shortly after Jenna arrived. Jenna did a great job at Trees tonight, with no hiccups in service.  Special Events? The From Beyond screening sold about fifty tickets, with several guests hanging out at Trees beforehand.  Staff Meeting Agenda notes : For the next bar staff email: when comping food as ‘No Like,’ the items can be split off the guest’s check, and the reason why the guest did not ...

Manager Communication :  Slow start to the day, which ramped up in the afternoon. Steady Trees traffic after 1ish, EL Nice dinner round for a Sunday, followed by a very mellow last round. JH Customer Comments :  I received a call from the Lobby bar about the Vax table, when I went down there was a guy yelling and cursing at hilda and hilda immediately started telling me what he did and he started telling me what she did.  I tried to get the story from Hilda but the back and forth started again. I told the guy to stop cursing at her and pulled him aside to speak away from the table.  He was very heated and felt disrespected by Hilda. He had his vax and ID.   I calmed him down and we understood that there was bad communication at some point. He told me he just came from working outdoors and was hot headed and apologized to me. I asked him if he was too heated to sit in a theater and he said he was good and just wanted to watch a movie with his girl.  The...

Manager Communication :  Decent Saturday brunch vibes, with ticket sales rising throughout the day. Now and Then screening had about fifty guests, and a bunch stayed for another round at Trees once the movie let out. Additionally, both first and third floor theaters had a very busy  second round. JH Great ticket sales throughout the day for Spiderman, Licorice, West Side Story, Parallel Mothers and even Sing 2. Scream is the one movie lagging behind expectations but otherwise we're seeing great day of sales right now. Very encouraging. Bar business was noticeably greater at all points today; confidence is increasing among guests for sure. Staffing was great today, with perfectly ample coverage at all points. JM Customer Comments: Had an altercation in Th1 with a guest for the last round of Spiderman. He angrily requested a manager because he had purchased tickets but had a guest in a wheelchair with him and could not get to the seats. I explained that he selected non-ADA seats...

Manager Communication: Pretty slow night besides a dinner pop in 4/6 for Licorice Pizza & the Tragedy, then the fun came with Single White Female.  Nice Trees crowd for that as per usual with the NH Diaries.  Customer Comments:  BAR Staff Observations: Gabrielle and Chelsea did a great job opening. Chelsea got cut as soon as Ian came and they both ate.  Gabrielle was going to get out when Jo got in and they both ate, but I asked her to stick around for the 4/6 pop. The theater sat pretty late (people arrived late) so I cut her at 7, and the little pop that came after, was manageable by Ian.  I helped with front facing a couple of times but it never got out of hand.  FOH Staff Observations: Gave a hand to th6 during the SWF pop. Special Events?: Nitehawk Diaries was almost sold out. had a great bar crowd at Trees and a great crowd in the theater.  I got to listen to a bit of the intro, and it was awesome.  Staff Meeting Agenda notes: We might n...

Manager Communication: Very slow numbers to start with a pretty good build on them for the dinner and later rounds. Easily handled levels of business all around with lots of down time for organization.  Special thanks to Lenord for helping to deep clean the walk in.  Customer Comments: Had a strange interaction during the first round of the day. A man came in and purchased tickets to Belle with his daughter, and then stood in the back of the theater maskless and asked RM some questions about the format of service. She asked him to pull up his mask until seated, eating and drinking and he was resistant but eventually complied, taking his seat. He asked why a different movie was on the screen, RM explained the preshow, he asked how long it was, she told him and he continued to be frustrated by other media being on the screen for some reason. He said he was going to wait outside until it started and then asked angrily for a refund up front. I gave a bit of resistance, citing poli...

Manager Communication: Pretty good day. Slow in the theaters but it was really nice to have Trivia back.  Customer Comments: The crowd at Trees was very merry today. People really seemed happy to be back for Trivia, and it makes our other guests very curious about Trees.  BAR Staff Observations: Jenn and Tevon were great openers. Ryan and Jenna closed out the night.  Jenn left around 8 when we saw the Trivia crowd wasn't going to overwhelm Tevon and Ryan.  Tevon left after trivia.   Special Events? Trivia was great. I love trivia and am so happy to have the two of them back.  Prep List: Jenn batched Firewalk, Lemonade, Blood Simple and winter daiquiri.

Manager Communication :  Slow start but then Minions and the early Spiderman screenings picked up and we had a steady mid brunch round. The day continued to build as we went on, although Scream seems to not have a lot of draw. Spiderman still leads the pack, but Licorice Pizza, West Side Story and even Nightmare Alley all are performing well. Probably a lot of hesitant guests from over the holidays feeling more confident and catching up.JM Pretty similar to last night, with a decent dinner round on both floors. A little bit of a bar crowd at Trees tonight, too (including Eliel’s new neighbors, who introduced themselves to Ashley and seemed to have a great time). JH BAR Staff Observations :  Good opens from Natasha and Eliel and they held down service well solo. Natasha K came in and did a big stock for Trees, with Eliel only needing a small period of support. Eliel batched before leaving with closers on the way. Nice, lean staffing for a good day. JM Natasha K. was able t...

Manager Communication :  Pretty chill cold day. Got a little busier in the afternoon. Spidey still crushing. EL Both floors had a fairly busy and bustling dinner round for a Sunday evening. The snow certainly didn’t deter anyone, and Trees had a decent bar crowd from about 6:30 until a little after 10. JH Customer Comments :  A couple tried using their gift card online and charged the tickets to their CC "by mistake" and asked for a refund so they could repurchase the tickets with their gift card. I tried to give them a credit but they said they were coming from Connecticut and really didn't have a lot of money, so I caved and gave them a refund and charged the same seats on their gift card. EL BAR Staff Observations :  Chelsea and Natasha K (Starr) did great opening. I cut Chelsea after Tevon arrived and Natasha got cut after her and Jenna worked the 2:30 Spidey. EL Great teamwork behind both bars this evening, with each duo switching off as needed throughout busier...

Manager Communication :  Very mellow opening round, with Scream, Spider-Man, and Licorice Pizza growing in ticket sales throughout the day.  Very cold out, so both bars had a noticeable uptick in hot beverage orders. JH Good night at the Hawk tonight, with steady bar business throughout the night and good drink rushes on both floors. Sales were really nicely spaced, with Macbeth, West Side Story and licorice Pizza all selling out or close to selling out smaller theaters and Scream driving a good crowd to the big theaters.  Cut Ian after some batching and stocking, cut Tevon once he restocked and got Jo through the Trees crowd. No issues with drink service JM BAR Staff Observations :  Chelsea and Natasha K. opened and set up both bars for success during the slower start. Ryan, Ian, and Tevon were able to restock and batch as needed, and both Chelsea and Natasha K. were cut shortly before four. JH PM team was strong and did a great job, Jo in particular was extremely e...

Manager Communication: Wonderful day at the Nitehawk. Slow all around except Theater 1 for CS Blues and Trees Lounge before and after.  It was great to see so many people merry at Trees lounge, as NH Cinema finally captured it's White Whale.  Customer Comments: BAR Staff Observations:  Chelsea and Natasha did a great job opening. Gabrielle and Ryan came in next, but Ryan wasn't feeling good so we moved Gabrielle upstairs, Natasha stayed the long night and closed lobby, while Chelsea stayed until the start of the after party, and only left when everything seemed easily manageable for Gabrielle. Everyone did great. FOH Staff Observations: Great job during CS Blues. Everyone hustled and worked great.  Sick Leave/ Call outs: We send Ryan home sick.  Special Events?: Cocksucker's Blues! after 10 long years. The crowd was great for this show and a nice group of them stayed for the after party at Trees Lounge. The DJ was great. It felt like a real party.  86ed / ...

Manager Communication: Slow start to the day, although our walk in pick ups are still decent enough that we got small pops to both bars. Dinner round was alright, had a surprisingly busy Trees Lounge prior to the dinner round and it's nice to see that energy coming back to the bar.  Cut Dylan right after Eliel got in and everyone ate and took the breaks they wanted. No issues handling the flow.  BAR Staff Observations: Chelsea and Dylan did solid opens, no issues handling the volume of service by anyone on either floor 86ed / counts on items: Pete's Pint Prep List: Will need some film specials batched tomorrow but otherwise well stocked

Eliel 1/11

Manager Communication:  Pretty slow day. Pretty cold too.  BAR Staff Observations: All three bartenders were great. Jenn left shortly after Tevon arrived, everyone ate and after she helped Jesse with a slight frozen malfunction.  FOH Staff Observations: Everyone was pretty cool.  86ed / counts on items: Two Robbers on a count.  Prep List: Made Hot Toddy.   Pay Outs: $17 nut milks for R&D, $31 Hazelnut liqueur for R&D  Maintenance: Sliding doors over service area at Trees are stuck. I think one might be off the track.

Jenn 01.10

Manager Communication : Fairly slow evening, with the second round Spider-Man being the biggest pop of the evening. Trees also had a fairly decent bar crowd both before and after the final round, which was a pleasant surprise on an otherwise quiet night.  BAR Staff Observations : Everyone did well tonight, finding side work to do during lulls. 86ed / counts on items : Two Robbers is on a count. Pete’s Pint is down to its last quart at each bar.  Prep List : Hot Toddy, Winter Daiquiri, and Grapefruit Syrup could be made tomorrow. But both bars are stocked, and there is backup in the walk in.  Over/Short on Banks : Filmbot was over by $3, explained below in Filmbot Issues .  Ordering/Receiving/Shipping : Baldor: star anise, honey, Cholula, yuzu juice, and Saratoga Sparkling.  Filmbot Issues : A guest at the 6:00 Spider-Man wanted to switch seats, but Filmbot would not allow me to process the refund. I spoke to Gerard, who advised me to try the refund again in a fe...

Manager Communication :  Pretty slow start. Got a little busier as the day went on but not by much. EL Dinner round was nice for a Sunday, both floors had a fair amount of popular screenings. Last round definitely slowed down, but the last round lull really helped both bars with close. JH BAR Staff Observations :  Openers Natasha and Ryan were great. Both were cut around 3.  Isi and Jenna were Trees mids and Tevon came in at 4pm to close Lobby down. EL Isi was first cut this evening, even though she was second mid, as she had some stuff to take care of and Jenna wanted the hours and was happy to stay on. Jenna got to batch some drinks for the first time, and I walked her through the process.  Tevon held it down in Lobby all night, and both he and Ashley were able to utilize the slower last round to slide into an easy close.  Isi left an open food tab at Trees. Jeannette advised me to close it out under (Tender)(Walk Out).  I printed out the check and left i...

Manager Communication: Mermaids was pretty quiet, but Spider-Man, MacBeth, Licorice Pizza and Sing 2 had numbers that steadily grew through the day. Had a little bit of a bar crowd at Trees at the top of the third round, which was nice. JH Similar building of these movies through the rest of the night. The 355 seems like a dud, but otherwise we had great walk in sales today and a bar crowd before and after every major load in. Definitely a sense of renewed confidence coming back, I think it will be a good time for the return of some higher capacity if these sales are an indication. Drink rushes were well handled, bar stayed stocked and smooth. BAR Staff Observations: Everyone was great today, and I was able to get both openers out shortly after all mids were in. JH All staff was able to break and was offered. Cuts were tight for labor and the lobby bar was routed to get Natasha out a bit earlier as she was on a clopen. JM 86ed / counts on items: There is a count on Two Robbers Seltzer....

Jenn 01.04

Manager Communication : Another mellow weeknight. We had a nice little crowd at Trees with guests eating food and hanging out before Sleepy Hollow. Nothing too crazy, but was a nice little pop.  BAR Staff Observations : Tevon and Eliel both did a great job opening and were able to restock both bars before clocking out. Ryan and Natasha K. held down both bars, and handled steady Spider-Man and Sleepy Hollow service.  Special Events? Sleepy Hollow had a nice turnout, with a lot of staff showing up for the screening, too.  Prep List : Fire Walk With Me and Careful What You Wish For could be batched tomorrow, but there is no rush as both bars are fully stocked and there is still backup in the walk in.  Maintenance : The shelf at Lobby Bar that the Filmbot station rests on has become partially dislodged and is unstable. Eliel was able to show Juan, and he asked that it be mentioned in the blog tonight.   Mobilebytes : We need to add a button for ‘High West Double Ry...

Jenn 01.03

Manager Communication : Relatively mellow Monday, even the Spider-Man screenings.  BAR Staff Observations : I was able to cut Isi, after some batching and restocking, once Jo came in to close Trees. Ashley did a great job in Lobby Bar, and was able to do a big restock of product during the slower rounds.  I did a lot of unboxing and restocking in both the liquor room and the walk in while making syrups. 86ed / counts on items : There is a count on Saratoga Sparkling and all in-house Other Half is stocked behind both bars (no count, as we have about thirty left and it was slow today).  Prep List : Isi made a Paloma keg, Pete’s Pint, and Blood Simple. I made Hibiscus, Lapsang Ginger, and Simple Syrups.

Manager Communication: Not a busy day but not too dull either.  Numbers were pretty low. Trees had a few customers here and there but nothing to get excited about.  Customer Comments: Helped a wheel chair customer to theater 1 and helped Projection move a chair.  When the movie was over I put the chair back and returned the tools to Projection.  A few people needed credits. I gave a refund to one couple because they weren't fully vaccinated.  BAR Staff Observations: Openers Natasha K & Ashley were pretty great.  I cut them as soon as a replacement came.  Then Ian was mid. I cut him after the closers showed up.  I then cut Isi and had Jo close lobby for her.  FOH Staff Observations:  The staff seemed to handle the scheduling stuff pretty well.   Prep List: Made some Lemonade.  Not much else happening.

Manager Communication: Good day today. A very slow opening round, but once we hit the next round we did a ton of walk in ticketing all day. With distancing, as always, the levels of business were steady and refreshingly good but very manageable as well. Definitely a lack of bar facing business again today; we got small pops before the big theaters but that was about it.  Were able to break and cut labor nice and tight all day and run a very smooth and efficient shift. Great day. BAR Staff Observations: Happy to have Natasha back, who did a great job working service with Tevon and stocking throughout. Gabrielle and Ian were great in lobby, tagging out and once Ian was in with Gab stocking him and then leaving. Similaraly, Chelsea did the same for Trees once mids were in and the bar was stocked. Prep List: Made Soggy Bottom, Eliel made bloody and concentrates. Batched a few odds and ends but overall we were very well prepped so not much to make during shift. We will need a Paloma keg...
